Kenny Lofton "The Catch" Bobblehead
Posted: Wednesday, August 18, 2010 by Admiral Snuggles in Labels: butts, sportsGrowing up in the late 80's and early 90's in northeast Ohio gave me the opportunity to watch a very special and amazing Cleveland Indians baseball team. The Indians will always be my favorite team no matter what, but in the 90s the Indians were really something special.
In the 90's the Indians had one of the most loaded offenses I have ever seen with players like Albert Belle, Jim Thome, Omar Vizquel, Manny Ramirez, Sandy Alomar, Roberto Alomar, David Justice, Matt Williams, Carlos Baerga, and Richie Sexson. But there was one player that was really special to me and was the guy who always got things started.
That player was Kenny Lofton.
Kenny Lofton was the leadoff hitter and center fielder for the Indians for most of his career. Lofton is one of the greatest leadoff hitters who ever lived. He was a six-time all-star, five-time American League leader in stolen bases, and four-time Gold Glove winner.
Lofton did not get picked up by a team for the 2008 season and retired.
On August 7th, 2010 Kenny was inducted into the Cleveland Indians Hall of Fame during a home game against the Twins.
I was fortunate enough to go the game, but more importantly I received my Kenny Lofton "The Catch" Bobblehead.
Sorry for the poor pictures, but in my defense this isn't the most photogenic bobblehead I've ever worked with. As you can see the bobblehead is modeled after the amazing "catch" now known as simply "The Catch". "The Catch" took place on an 1996 home game against the Orioles.Orioles hitter B.J Surhoff crushed a ball to deep center field where Kenny Lofton jumped and got his glove over the center field wall catching the ball and robbing B.J Surhoff of a possible game winning home run. I had the privilege of watching this game live and almost peeing my pants.
Like I said before, the bobblehead is supposed to be Kenny Lofton reaching over the wall, so from the front you only get a glimpse of bobblehead Kenny peaking over the wall but if you flip it around you can only see Kenny's back. So basically I'm not quite sure how to display this bobblehead and I can already guess most people I show the bobblehead to aren't going to know what it's deal is. But it's okay, I love free stuff.
Here's some pictures of the box it came in!!
I love you Kenny Lofton Bobblehead.
